Если, не дай Бог, начнете читать, то заранее forgive me for my stupid mistakes! :)

   London

London is almost 2000 years old. Its history is closely linked to the history of both England and Great Britain. Thanks to British colonialism many cultures meet in London. The area comprising today’s London was inhabited by Celts around 800 BC. In 55 BC legions of Julius Caesar settled here and later founded a military campus known as Londinium. For defence purposes the Romans built solid fortifications - today’s City. In 240 London became the capital of four Roman provinces on the British isles and retained its importance even after the Roman departure, when local inhabitants moved in.
Today’s London has a lot to offer. It is a cosmopolitan city that has attracted 10 millions inhabitants. As it's well known, London is traditionally devided into several parts: the City, Westminster, the West End and the East end. The heart of London is the City, its financial and business centre. Numerous banks, offices and firms are situated there, and so very few people live in this part, but over a million people come to the City to work. The most famous ancient building in the City is St Paul's Cathedral, the greatest of English churches.
Westminster is the historic, the governmental part of London. Westminster Abbey has more historic associations than any other building in Britain. Nearly all English kings and queens have been crowned here and many outstanding people are buried here.
The West End is the richest and most beautiful part of London. It is the symbol of wealth and luxury, and only the richest people can live there and possess splendid houses and lovely gardens. And the East End on the contrary is the poorest district of London with a lot of factories, workshops and docks. It is densely populated by working class families.
As for me, I'd like to visit London, and it wouldnt't be an overstatement to call my wish a dream. If you ask me which place of interest I would visit at first, I'll probably answer nothing for I really don't know. I think that the most important and precious is the atmosphere of London, not some particular places. It seems to me that London is one of that rare cities where ancientry is in the air, and you can breathe it in. I hope one day my dreams will come true, and I'll see London.

   About Myself

I'll try to tell you about myself. My name is Olga, I'm 19 years old and I'm a student of Samara State technical university. But allow me to tell nothing about the university, it's another topic. I'm going to tell you about my personality. All my life is devided into two parts: inside and outside. All that is going on outside may please or trouble me, may influence on my thoughts and behavour, but it is not me. I am my soul. I value feelings higher than mind. So I think that true things are that can touch my heart.
These are literature, music, creation, even dreeming, but not a routine. I like reading very much, but I read not for fun. I'm sure that a good book should make you thinking. My favourite author is J.R.R. Tolkien. In fact I don't like fantasy, but he is an exeption. His books are full of something strange that I can't even explain or describe. It feels like a thrill within you soul that makes you smile and cry at the same time. It is incredible mystery between lines. It is a marvel. I can spend hours and hours poring over Tolkien's books or thinking about them afterwards. Sometimes I feel a need for creating, and I draw small pictures in pencil, or write poems, or simply make some records in a journal. In fact, I have a lot of thick notebooks where I write down my thoughts. It's my strange hobby, and you know, you can find short records even at the end of my university summaries. As for music is concerned, I like different styles, bul I have one request of all the music I listen to: it must have not only good melody but good lyrics as well, which means that I pay much attention to the sense of the words. The song is the poem set to music I think, not the music with words. So you see I'm rather queer. But that's still not enough. Where my heart is trully lies is in peace and quiet and nature. I dream about some nice cozy house somewhere far from civilization, in the forest or near the lake. And I would walk there naked and wild and know no woe! Such a strange thoughts, but that is me! Of course I have to live in a reality, but every incorrigible dreamer hopes his dreams will come true.

   My Future Profession

When you leave school you understand that the time to choose your future profession has come. For a young inexperienced person just graduating from school it is really a hard task. There are thousands of ways before you, and you can choose only one. How to make none a mistake?
As for me, I've changed my mind about my future a lot of times since my childhood. Once I dreamed about a profession of a vet. It was in my far childhood, when I was very small and didn't understand that our real life differ from a cartoon about Doctor Aibolit. To be a vet means not only to play with cats and dogs, but to see pain, suffering, blood and death. Of course it isn't for me. In a primary school I wanted to be a teacher like my aunt was. It seemed to be very interesting and useful. But as the years passed I understood that to be a good teacher is very and very difficult. You must know perfectly the subject you teach, you must be well educated and well informed, but that's not enough! First of all you must be very and very pacient and you must love every child like your own. I think I'm rather nervous to do such a job.
Fortunatelly, now I've already chosen what to do in the future. Two years ago I've entered Samara State Technical university, where I study now. My future job will be connected with computers, that amazing creatures we can hardly imagine a modern life without. To tell you the truth, I really love computers. Of course they can't replace people in a conversation, but you must agree that there are a lot of spheares where computers are better than humans. I switch on my computer at once when I return home, and it works until I go to bed. It replaces me a notebook with a pen, a CD and DVD-player, a bookshelf, an easel with colors and brushes, a photoalbum, and so, and so on. Moreover, the computer helps me to do all my homework, to carry out difficult calculations. In fact, it can do the most incredible things imaginable! And that is only at home. Do you understand how enormous job can computer do in an industry and a science? However computers can't work independently. They need an operator. So I'm going to become such a mate of computer, that will be my profession.

   Russia

Now I'd like to tell you a little about my motherland, Russia. Russia is the largest country in the world. It occupies about one-seventh of the earth's surface and it's washed by 12 seas of 3 oceans: the Pacific, the Arctic and the Atlantic.
There is hardly a country in the world where such a variety of scenery and vegetation can be found. We have steppes in the south, plains and forests in the midland, tundra and taiga in the north, highlands and deserts in the east. Moreover Russia is rich in great rivers. The most impressive and beautiful of them - the river Volga - is much longer than such famous European rivers as the Thames and the Seine. It's not a secret that our rivers are our pride. Our specific nature inspired a lot of great and famous people - poets, painters, composers - to create their incomparable masterpieces. Let me quote a piece of the poem "My country" by our greatest poet Mikhail Uryevich Lermontov. He wrote about Russia:
But I do love - and I don't know why -
Her endless plains' indifference and silence,
Her endless forests' ever swaying wildness,
Her rivers' floods which, like the sea, are wide.
And every Russian inhabitant will say you that our nature is probably one of the best our precious. To tell you the truth, we have a lot of problems in our country, and the main is our economical situation. Unfortunatelly, now Russia cannot compare to the high-developed Europe, but I think that's not a point. A point is that is called "a Russian mentality" or even "a mysterious Russian soul". That is our force. No doubt, sooner or later Russia will rise from the knees. But it will always have its own way, very different from any others. Tyutchev in his poem said perfectly:
Russia is a thing of which
the intellect cannot conceive.
Hers is no common yardstick.
You measure her uniquely:
in Russia you believe!

   Samara

Samara is my native city. It is situated on the great Russian river Volga that is much longer than such famous European rivers as the Thames and the Seine. It's not a secret that our river is our pride. As for Samara it is the perl of the Volga region, I think. (4) It is partly because of its situation - as it's well known, Samara stays on the crossind of many roads that go from the North to the South and from the East to the West. Moreover, Samara is a high-developed region thanks to its government and people. I'm proud to say that the economical situation in Samara is rather good, better than in most cities in Russia. (7) And of course Samara is very and very beautiful city. Our climate is continental that allows us to enjoy real Russian winters with snow above the knee and very hot summers which can envy even tropical regions. (9) And in every weather you can get much pleasure being in Samara for thousands places of interest will not allow you to get bored. 10 It's no use to tell about all of them in a word but there are indeed some major. In my opinion first of all it is the embankment of the Volga - it is the first place where I would lead my foreign guest. For when you look over a panorama of the river from the embankment you feel some strange thrill within your soul. What can compare to the monument built by nature? 14 And if you wish something impressive you can visit the Opera and Ballet theatre - you will be surprised not only with the magnificent building of the theatre but also with excellent performance. Besides there are many others theatres, museums and galleries that deserve to be visited. But as famous proverb says, business before pleasure. And in Samara you can not only have a rest - there are a lot of universities too. Young people from all over the world study in our universities and it is not a wonder to see black man or Chinese in the streets of Samara. 19 So you can find whatever you want in our nice city, and beyond any doubt it is one of the best places in the world.

   The UK

It is always very interesting to study geography. Reading about different countries, you can imagine yourself travelling there. Isn't it the best way to spend your spare time - to travel all over the world? The first place, which I would visit if I went to a journey, is the UK, or The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is partly because I learn English language, and it would be so exciting to visit the country where this language was born, and to talk to native-speakers. And, you know, I have a real passion for everything somehow relating to the English culture. So it is one of my dreams. Unfortunatelly, now I know very little about the UK, about its history, traditions. As it used to be, at school we learn only some bare facts about its geography, economical and political situation, mineral resources and so on. But I'm sure, that the face of the country, and something that we could call "flavour", are shaped not by such factors, but by something else. I know that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles, which consist of two large islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and about five thousand small islands. Their total area is over 244,000 square kilometres. These are some facts from the book of English topics. And you know, they tell me nothing. But on the other hand I know that the UK is the motherland of my favourite writer, J.R.R. Tolkien, and from his books I can know much about England, for every line in them is breathing of the English "flavour". From my school course I know that the UK is a constitutional monarchy. In law, the Head of State is the Queen, but the country is ruled by the elected government with the Prime Minister at the head. And again, this tells me nothing. But I know how wonderful and fantastic princess Diana was, and when she died it was the real tragedy. I think she and her way, such an English way, was more than some poor words in a text-book.
Of course, it's my own opinion and my own view. And I hope some years later, when I grow and become prosperous and independent person, I'll certainly visit the UK, and then I'll tell you more.

   My University

You can hardly imagine our modern life without an education, and a university is a place where you can get it. I study in Samara State Technical university on a faculty of automatics and informational technologies. I've chosen this institute according to my own taste and interests. One can think that technical education is not for a girl, but belive me, girls are not such silly dolls, as most of boys think about them. No doubt, women can do all the jobs that men can, not only sit an home and take care of children, waiting when dear husband will bring some money. Oh, I sound a little feministic, but a fiminist I am! Well, continuing about my university... It is rather old - it was founded in 1914 for the industry of the region developed and there was a need for high-educated specialists. Now it is one of the best universities in Samara, but I would lie if I said that it has no demerits, only merits, but anyway I love it. I hope that here I'll get a good profession. So I'm going to become such a mate of computer, that will be my profession, and my university will help me in it.
I must say that the university is a place not for studying only. I have many friends here, and sometimes we prefer chating to listening to lecture. Oh yes, some lectures are rather boring... But that not a point! A point is that in a whole my university is an exellent place, it's a stair to my future.

   The USA

It is always very interesting to study geography. Reading about different countries, you can imagine yourself travelling there. Isn't it the best way to spend your spare time - to travel all over the world? One of the first place, which I would visit if I went to a journey, is the USA, or The United States of America. It is partly because I learn English language, and it would be so exciting to visit the country where this language is spoken, and to talk to native-speakers. Unfortunatelly, now I know very little about the USA, about its history, traditions. As it used to be, at school we learn only some bare facts about its geography, economical and political situation, mineral resources and so on. But I'm sure, that the face of the country, and something that we could call "flavour", are shaped not by such factors, but by something else. I know that the USA is made up of 50 states and the District of Columbia, a special federal area where the capital of the country, Washington, is situated. But I'm sure, that's not a poin. A point is that the USA is really such an unusual country, that differ a lot from any others. The atmosphere of the USA is fantastic, at least it seems to be such to us, Russian inhabitants. The USA is the internationat country. If we see a black man on the our street, we are in a shoke, and so we can hardly imagine how it can be so - that people of all nationalities are mixed in the one country. But that is it, this is America! Such American cities as Las-Vegas, Los-Angeles, New-York, Holliwood savour of luxury, luck, gold and money, and million of people dream of American casinos. But the USA is also that wild land, that we can see in famous films-Westerns, where brave cowboys ride their horses. And that sunny Hawaii, that paradise on earth - are also America! You see - how many faces, how many ways - and all this America! Don't you think it's more than some poor words in a text-book?
Of course, it's my own opinion and my own view. And I hope some years later, when I grow and become prosperous and independent person, I'll certainly visit the USA, and then I'll tell you more.
